Here is an image of Heron Lake, a freshwater lake in northern New Mexico bearing some resemblance to nearby Stinking Lake, which is the main subject of the New Mexico chapter. I took this picture this past November, when I went to my parents’ house in Colorado for Thanksgiving with my family. I have thought about adding something about Heron Lake to the book, emphasizing the island in its center, which is visible in this picture. (Also, note the tiny car next to the water’s edge at the right center!) Perhaps this will work out for a future edition. In the meantime, I hope you like this picture.
